Attention college students: check out our new lead internship positions!

Originally posted October 26, 2015

Hey college students! If you are interested in spending your summer learning and working in urban ministry, we’ve got a great opportunity for you.

Breaking Chains is currently seeking applicants to fill our two new lead internship positions. Lead interns will spend the summer working with our ministry team, growing in relationships with those we serve in Honduras, helping with day-to-day ministry tasks and program development, and helping lead and coordinate our other summer interns and visiting mission teams.

All of our BC interns (including lead interns) are responsible for raising the funds necessary to support their work in Honduras. However, attached to the two lead internship positions is a $1000 scholarship per position to help curb the cost of fundraising. That is more than one-third of the cost needed to spend the whole summer in Honduras ($2500 total).

Interns must be available to work in Honduras from May 15 to Aug. 5 and must be of college age. Special preference will be given to students with an interest in missions/urban ministry and to those with an ability to speak Spanish.

The deadline to submit applications this year is December 1, 2015.

If you are interested, please check out our internship job description and application for more details about requirements and responsibilities. Please contact courtney@bchonduras.org with any questions.

We are excited about this new opportunity for our ministry and look forward to connecting with students who have a heart for changing the world through their love for God and service.

Bendiciones,

The BC Honduras team

Help us fulfill school supply lists for families in need!

Originally posted February 5, 2015

As we’ve mentioned before, we strongly believe that a solid education is a huge key to breaking the cycle of poverty for families living in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. We aren’t able to help every child with private education, so we are also seeking to help some other families succeed right where they are in public education.

Public education in Honduras is typically free, but the high cost of school supplies and uniforms often keeps families from being able to send their children to school. This year, we would like to help with some of that burden by covering the school supply costs for 30 to 50 families who worship with us at Breaking Chains.

The cost per school supply list is around $50, and many families have more than one child. We are currently collecting lists from our church members and will purchase as many supplies as we receive funds for.

If you are interested in giving toward education but are unable to make a sustained commitment, this is a great opportunity to give a one-time contribution of $25, $50, $100, etc. Every little bit helps, and every penny you donate will go right toward purchasing school supplies for a family in need.

You may make a quick online donation here or send a check to Breaking Chains Honduras, P.O. Box 20454 Oklahoma City, OK 73156.

Thank you for your support in giving these kids a shot at an education! Below are a few faces who have already been helped with your generous donations, and we cannot wait to help more.

Help give a child a hopeful future through education!

It’s that time of year again! It’s back to school time in Honduras. In a country where 60 percent of people live below the poverty line and most students don’t make it past fifth grade, a solid education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty. For the past few years, Breaking Chains has been lucky to receive the support of U.S. donors to sponsor Honduran children for a private education. And each year, we have seen just how much a positive educational environment can impact a child’s self-confidence, intelligence, social skills and outlook on life.

This year, we are sponsoring 15 students (including 5 new this year) for private education in area schools in Tegucigalpa. The students are all from families that have previously lived with us at Breaking Chains or who are a part of our church family. Thanks to generous donors, nine of the children are already sponsored. However, we still have six students who are in need of full or partial sponsorship. We need your help!

The cost to sponsor a child for private school is $100 per month for tuition and transportation. Each child also requires a one-time payment of $600 to help with books, school supplies, uniforms, and incidentals throughout the year (such as field trips and projects).

Some of the students have portions of their needs already covered, while others are still in need of the full amount. Below is a listing of children still needing full or partial sponsorship. If you are interested in sponsoring the full needs of a child or donating part of a sponsorship (just the monthly costs, just the upfront costs, etc.) please email courtney@bchonduras.org. Donations may be made online here or by sending a check to: Breaking Chains Honduras, P.O. Box 20454 Oklahoma City, OK 73156.

Thank you for your interest in our Breaking Chains kids! Our education program has been one of the most rewarding parts of ministry for us, and we are so excited to see what these young lives do in the future with your help!

It’s back to school time: Help us break chains through education!

The new school year is about to begin in Honduras and we need your help! For the past few years, Breaking Chains has been blessed to have generous friends sponsor local children for both private and public education. This year, we would like to do that again and, in addition, provide for the school supply costs of various families who worship with us at Breaking Chains.

If you are interested in helping support a child’s education, check out how in the flyer below. There are three different avenues to give (monthly private education support, one-time private education support, and one-time donations for school supplies).

Profiles of available children still seeking partial or full support for private education will be made available in the next few days. In the meantime, please prayerfully consider if you would be willing and able to give. You may also make a one-time donation for a family’s school supply costs at any time.

Thank you for your support in helping break us break chains through education!

2015 is almost here! Please keep Breaking Chains in mind for year-end giving

December 11, 2014

Dear friends of Breaking Chains,

As 2014 draws to a close and we reflect on all that has happened this past year, we cannot help but be reminded of God’s continual grace and faithfulness. We are grateful for the way the Lord continues to watch over the ministry in Tegucigalpa, and we are humbled to have friends like you stand alongside us.

This year, thanks to God’s provision and your support, Breaking Chains enrolled 13 children in different school opportunities and cheered as seven teenagers and young adults completed another level of their respective educations. We watched as our church congregation began forming leaders and growing into a Spirit-led family, and we rejoiced at the hiring of a BC youth minister to focus on our teens and street outreach. Additionally, we again witnessed the body of Christ in motion as our Honduran family and our visiting U.S. volunteers formed meaningful relationships and ministered to one another.

As we look toward 2015, we hope that God guides our steps to continue being ambassadors of His love, hope and grace. With your support, our goals include finding higher education opportunities for our eligible teenagers and helping the young adults and families our ministry serves connect to stable work and living avenues. We also aim to continue fostering spiritual growth among our church family and street outreach efforts.

As you seek to bless others through your year-end giving, we ask that you please keep Breaking Chains in mind. Your tax-deductible donations will be instrumental in supporting our ministry’s mission and continuing to create more opportunities like those mentioned above.

If you wish to contribute, you may do so online here. You may also send check donations to our U.S. mailing address at P.O. Box 20454 Oklahoma City, OK 73156.

We cannot say thank you enough for your continued support of Breaking Chains. We pray God’s richest blessings on you this holiday season, and we look forward to sharing another year of ministry with you.

Bendiciones,

The Breaking Chains Honduras team
