It's almost 2019! Please keep Breaking Chains in mind for year-end giving

Thank you for your prayer and support this past year! The ministry has continued to grow in many ways, and we are grateful to have had you stand alongside us. As we enter the New Year, we are reflecting on all the ways in which God has worked this past year and looking forward to continued service in 2019.

As you seek to bless others through your year-end giving and regular 2019 giving, we humbly ask that you keep Breaking Chains in mind. Your tax-deductible donations are instrumental in supporting the ministry’s mission and creating more opportunities for those we serve.

Below you can view our 2019 Giving Guide. Please take a look at the various needs and consider a contribution. One-time gifts and recurring payments can be made through the donate page of the website.

Teen Mental Health: $500 monthly/$6,000 yearly total

The teens and young adults the ministry serves come from hard places. Many have experienced trauma that requires special support to overcome. Several of the teens we have welcomed this year need regular medication and psychiatric counseling in order to for them to gain stability and move forward in life. We are seeking monthly partners who can help with these costs. The support needed for teen mental health is $500 per month.

Additional House Parents: $700 monthly/$8,400 yearly total

At any given time, our Breaking Chains building houses eight to fifteen young adults who are in periods of transition. We are only able to support these young adults on their journeys because of the help of our amazing house parents. The house parents serve as spiritual mentors, counselors, disciplinarians and loving pillars of stability.

We are seeking to hire one additional full-time house parent and one additional part-time house parent to join our existing team. The additional employees would ensure that two house parents are able to be present at the building at all times, and would allow each employee to have more time for rest and renewal. The support needed to hire the additional house parents is $700 per month.

Education Vehicle: $17,000 remainder needed

One of the most vibrant and fruitful components of the ministry is the education program. Through the help of generous donors, we were able to sponsor 27 students to attend quality schools in 2018. Fourteen of those students attend bilingual school. Due to the increase in number of bilingual students, we have had to make some considerations regarding the best way to handle transportation. After exploring different options, our team and board decided that it is a better investment for us to purchase a small bus of our own. The vehicle will allow us to save money in the long run as well as give us more flexibility and additional transportation to help with other ministry activities.

We are seeking to raise $30,000 toward the purchase of the vehicle ($25,000 for the bus purchase, and $5,000 set aside for maintenance). Currently, we have $13,000 raised, but we are seeking contributions for the remainder.

—GIVING GUIDE—

Education Vehicle: $17,000 remainder needed (one-time contribution)

One of the most vibrant and fruitful components to the ministry is the education program. Through the help of generous donors, we were able to sponsor 25 students to attend quality schools in 2018. Twelve of those students attend bilingual school. Due to the increase in number of students, we have had to make some considerations regarding the best way to handle transportation. After exploring different options, our team and board decided that it is a better investment for us to purchase a vehicle of our own to accommodate the students. The vehicle will allow us to save money in the long run as well as give us more flexibility and could be used for other ministry activities.

We are seeking to raise $30,000 toward the purchase of a small bus ($25,000 for the vehicle purchase, and $5000 set aside for maintenance). Currently, we have $13,000 of that raised, but we are looking to raise the remainder. If you are interested in making a difference in education through a one-time contribution, this is a need that would serve the ministry greatly.

Additional House Parents: $700 per month needed

At any given time, our Breaking Chains building houses five to fifteen young adults who are in periods of transition. We are only able to help these young adults on their journeys because of the help of our amazing house parents. The house parents serve as mentors, counselors, disciplinarians, and loving pillars of stability.

We are seeking to hire one additional full-time house parent and one additional part-time house parent to join our existing team. The additional employees would ensure that two house parents are able present at the building at all times, and would allow each employee to have more time for rest and renewal. The support needed to hire the additional house parents is $700 per month. Recurring donations of any amount will be beneficial in helping us reach our goal.

Monthly Benevolence: $350 PER MONTH NEEDED

As the ministry continues to grow, so does our desire to increase our service capacity through regular benevolence. We have many church family members and friends in the community who need assistance from time to time with needs such as medical expenses, funeral costs, education supplies, etc. In order to help care for those we love, we are seeking additional support to supplement our existing benevolence budget. We are seeking an additional $350 per month in support.

Beach Christmas 2018 is coming! Please consider sponsoring

Beach Christmas 2018 is on its way! The annual trip has become a beloved tradition that our BC family looks forward to every year. It’s a great time to get away from the city, reward the young adults, education program students and parents for their hard work during the year, and thank God for His blessings. We relax on the beach, play in the ocean and in the pool, open a few presents, and spend quality time as a family. Click here to view photos from last year’s trip.

Each individual attending will need a sponsorship of $150 to cover the cost of their food, lodging, transportation and gifts for the weekend. Some of the individuals needing sponsorship have been a part of our BC family for a long time, while others are joining us for their first ever Beach Christmas trip. Please take a look at the profiles below and consider a donation!

Please email courtney@bchonduras.org if you have any questions.

We are so thankful for your continued support and prayer. We are humbled that you choose to engage with our BC family, and we pray that God continues to give you strength as you serve and share His love with others.

Help send our BC church kids back to school by contributing toward school supplies!

email banner 1.jpg

It’s that time of year again! The Honduran school year runs February to November, so that means many of the kids who worship with our Breaking Chains family are heading back to school later next month. And we are asking for your help to make sure they have the supplies they need!

Though public education in Honduras is technically free (meaning no monthly tuition costs), students are still responsible for purchasing their own school supplies and uniforms. A typical school supply list (not including uniforms) costs around $50 or more to fulfill. That might not sound like much, but that can be a burden for families living in urban poverty (especially if they are purchasing for more than one child), and many schools will not allow the child to attend without the necessary supplies.

Over the past several years, we have tried to ease this burden for the kids and parents in our BC church family through help from generous donors. We collect supply lists and purchase necessary supplies for the children, while parents handle the costs of uniforms. Last year, through your generosity, we were able to purchase supplies for 150 students.

Contributing toward school supplies is a great opportunity to make a quick one-time donation that will have a lasting impact throughout the year. Any amount is beneficial. One-time donations of $10, $25, and $100 all add up and can create a positive change in a child’s life and his or her educational future.

If you would like to make a one-time donation, you may do so online via the donate page of the website. Just click on the donate button and enter whatever amount you would like to give. If you prefer to make a check donation, simply make the check payable to “Breaking Chains Honduras” with “school supplies” in the memo line and mail to P.O. Box 20454 Oklahoma City, OK 73156.

We are continually humbled by your support and your choice to stand alongside Breaking Chains and those it serves. Thank you for partnering with us!

Thank you for a wonderful Beach Christmas 2017!

Our annual Beach Christmas trip in December was another fantastic experience for our BC family, and we are so grateful to the sponsors who made it possible!

Due to road construction en route to our usual location in Amapala, this year we spent Beach Christmas in a new location – Tela. Tela is a beautiful beach city located on the northern coast of Honduras. We weren’t sure how we would like the change of venue, but once we arrived and saw the beautiful views, we knew we were in for another fantastic weekend.

After checking into our hotel rooms, everyone got changed and headed to the beach. The water in Tela has significantly more waves than Amapala, so it was fun watching many of the kids that were with us experience that for the first time. People ran and jumped in the waves, others decided to play soccer, the kids started building things in the sand, and some chose just to grab a Coke, sit and enjoy the view. Watching everyone have the opportunity to just relax and just spend some distraction-free time together is one of the biggest blessings of the trip.

After everyone got their fill of the waves and the sand, they moved to spend time in the hotel’s beautiful pool. There weren’t many other people staying at the hotel at the time, so we pretty much had the pool to ourselves. Again, we loved getting to watch the kids enjoy the water – and even more, we loved watching the hardworking parents get to spend some precious, quality time with their children.

The next day after waking up and spending some more time in the pool and ocean, we formed a circle with patio chairs and began to open presents. Thanks to generous individual sponsors, each member of our BC family was able to receive a new pair of shoes, an outfit and an extra gift. The presents are certainly not the most important part of the whole trip, but it is always a joy to share in this tradition together and share the excitement.

After spending some more time playing in the afternoon, it was time to head back to the city. We say it every year, but Beach Christmas really is such a special time for our BC family. The teens and education students work so hard during the year to make sure they stay on top of school to pass their classes. And the education parents work doubly hard to provide for their families and keep their kids on track. Being able to bless them with a weekend to pause, reflect, relax and share moments together is an incredible gift.

We are so thankful to the sponsors who made this trip happen. Thank you for your generous hearts and your love for our BC family! We hope you are having a wonderful start to 2018!
